Writing a CV

Employers will read your CV (often briefly) before deciding to invite you to interview.

Capital Selection’s tips to help you prepare your CV are:

  • Tailor your CV to the role, self-assess yourself against the role criteria, analyse the role and your skills to make your CV relevant.
  • Structure your CV, it should include the following sections: contact details, nationality/visa details (if applicable), education and training, work experience, skills summary, interests, references.
  • Order your education and qualification, giving prominence to the most recent and relevant to the specific role.
  • Include all your skills, as well as formal qualifications include software skills, applications, operating systems, databases you are familiar with, and any languages you speak.
  • Include all your experience, for example work placements, voluntary work, including the skills you have developed in each role.
  • Keep personal details to a minimum.
  • Check dates and explain any gaps.
